About the role

At Linking Realities, we offer an API that allows our users to generate their own 3D avatars from 2D selfies with low poly counts to be used in virtual worlds. For this role, we are looking for a skilled engineer that can help us continue improving the avatar generation API and its frontend to meet the requirements of our users.

The main functionality of the API is to generate 3D avatars using our in-house libraries. It’s written in Pythonusing the FastAPI framework, and the avatars are stored in our cloud provider object-store.

On the frontend side, we use React as our main framework, although we also have some bits in VueJS. It implements a graphical interface so users can easily generate and visualize their avatars (you can find it at https://unionavatars.com/, give it a try and generate your own photorealistic avatar!).

Our immediate objectives are optimizing the frontend (e.g. move some computation to the client-side, lighter and faster 3D visualizations…) and the API (e.g. offloading the avatar generation and other heavy-weight computations) so they are able to handle increasing loads, as well as making the architecture safer and more robust. Midterm, we plan to integrate with Web3-based platforms in order to have our avatars used in as many Metaverses as possible!

We have an office in Barcelona where we meet from time to time when we need to coordinate or work on something together. Other than that, you can work from wherever you feel more productive.

Responsibilities

• Improve and maintain the avatar generation API
• Optimize and extend the avatar generation frontend
• Work on integrations with third-party platforms
• Work on internal tooling to administrate users and avatars

Qualifications

• At least 2 to 4 years of experience in full-stack development
• Comfortable with Python, JavaScript/Typescript, and Git
• General knowledge of cloud computing and networking
• Good understanding of databases (e.g. SQL)
• Be familiar with agile development methodologies
• Good written and spoken communication skills
• Sharp learning skills

Nice to haves

• General computer graphics knowledge
• Experience with 3D rendering on the web (e.g. Three.js, Babylon.js)
• Blockchain/Web3 experience or a strong interest in learning!
• Familiar with startup vibes
